Kitchen Trends for 2020

Kitchen

There is nothing more inspiring than home decor trends. The new kitchen trends for 2020 are some of the boldest that we’ve seen in a while. Gone are the cool grays and soothing whites that have made our kitchens feel like a relaxing sanctuary the past few years. We’re seeing exciting colors, a newly trending countertop and big news in backsplashes.

We’ve put together a list of five of our favorite upcoming kitchen trends. It’s 2020, and we’re ready to make a statement.

Colorful Cabinetry

We have seen a trend toward using different colors in kitchen cabinetry for a while. White top cabinets and gray bottom cabinets, for example. Now picture those bottom cabinets in something bold — sapphire blue, hunter green or peacock blue. We think it’s just the change that we’ve been looking for.

Butcher Block Countertops

Moving on to the countertop, we’re seeing a move toward butcher block. With our eye-catching cabinets, butcher block adds a natural element with visual weight to ground the boldness of the cabinetry.

Caring for butcher block countertops is easier than you may think, but there are some things to keep in mind. Since it’s wood, you will need to re-seal it with a couple of coats of food-grade mineral oil about once a month so that any liquids continue to bead on the surface.

After that, cleaning is easy. Just scrape off any food with a plastic spatula and use a sponge dampened with soap and warm water to wipe up the rest. Stains can be removed by covering the area with a bit of table salt and rubbing with half a lemon.

Full-Wall Backsplash

The 2020 backsplash trend is big. By big, we mean big tiles. We like the big 8-by-12 inch subway tiles or 12-by-12 inch squares. This time, we’re not going to stay politely down behind the stove. We’re going up behind the range hood and all the way up to the ceiling.

Walk-In Pantry

The pantry cabinet has been an essential part of any modern kitchen for years. It solved an older issue of food stored in small cabinets throughout the kitchen, but it has its drawbacks. It’s nice to have a floor-to-ceiling cabinet that’s deep enough to hold everything, but can you ever really find anything?

A walk-in pantry with shelving on three sides puts everything right where you can see it. It’s easy to organize, and you can find anything you need at a glance.

Marble Accessories

Finally, the kitchen accessory trend that we love in 2020 is marble. Marble trivets and a spoon rest would be a great addition to help protect your new butcher block countertop. It also coordinates well with any of the kitchen accessories you already own. We think it looks especially modern with copper.

That’s the list of our five favorite kitchen trends for 2020. We hope you’re just as excited as we are to bring these looks into your home. At S&K Remodeling, we’re ready to help you create the kitchen of your dreams.
